Games of chance have changed in some significant ways over the past decade. Once primarily the province of casinos, they can now be accessed virtually anywhere, anytime, via personal computers and mobile phones. This transformation diminishes traditional distinctions between gambling and gaming, and poses challenges for responsible gambling interventions that were designed to regulate play in casino settings. At the same time, the digital era has created novel opportunities to develop responsible gaming practices and cultures. New digital and mobile mediums of play enable analyses of player behaviour at a very granular level. New data-mining and analytic tools can be leveraged to identify risk practices, and to correlate micro-behaviours with macro-level socio-environmental and socio-political dynamics. Broadly situated within the sociology of risk, this project uses diverse methods to 1) understand emergent risk practices in the digital era, and 2) develop new approaches to responsible gaming adapted to the digital era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
